Twitter: A Gateway to Blogging
Have you always wanted to start a blog but have no idea what to say? Do you wonder if you even have anything worth saying, but still want to say it anyway? It has long been joked that blogging is just a whole lot of people, with a whole lot to say, about absolutely nothing, and to nobody. However, despite this truth, we still want to blog.
So where should beginners start? Twitter.
Twitter’s recently released statistics (1000% growth in February 2009) confirm that most of you reading this blog already have a twitter account. And if you haven’t joined twitter yet, even out of mere curiosity to find out what it’s all about, then you probably have no true interest in blogging.
For those of you who already have twitter accounts, the battle is already half won. This social network is SO limiting and restrictive that it makes for the perfect starting place for those of you who are scared to reign in the randoms thoughts you have and turn them into a cohesive blog post worth reading. Forget pictures and paragraphs, Twitter will allow you up to 140 characters to get your thought out or you will be cut off mid-sentence. What makes Twitter an even better starting place is that you can remain completely anonymous. You can “tweet” from your computer or even better, your phone, five hundred times per day and not a single other individual needs to know about it. Need an even easier and faster foolproof remedy to boost your confidence? Opt to ”follow” the tweets of celebrities who will never follow you back and who will tweet about the most pointless things that you will feel dumber for reading their posts.
So start tweeting. At first, finding a “voice” that you feel comfortable projecting to other people may be disquieting. However, nobody needs to know that it took you 45 minutes to come up with six words to post and they also don’t need to know that you have nothing to add on to those six words. Instead, you will leave your audience intrigued and wondering more about the thoughts that are going on inside of your head and they will likely blame twitter’s character limit for restricting your ingenuity.
Over time you will inevitably become comfortable tweeting. You will not only wish you had more characters to “tweet” with, but you will have grown a group of followers who will loyally and happily follow you to your blog.
I have been looking looking around for this kind of information. Will you post some more in future? I’ll be grateful if you will.
Damn, that sound’s so easy if you think about it.
Anyone knows a service that allows me to add a live signature to my blog? Seen it at other sites and wonder how it’s done…
